MAHA BASQUIAT - DPM: BONSAI FOREST CHALK

Jean-Michel Basquiat was born in New York in 1960 and is seen as one of the foremost neo-expressionists, with his works highlighting societal dichotomies and drawing attention to the heavy socio-economic disparities of New York in the ‘80s. Combining traditional forms of creative expression, such as painting, poetry and drawing, his pieces are some of the most moving and socially engaging of the modern era.

The latest Maharishi release features emblematic house styles made from sustainable hemp, organic cotton and durable technical fabrics, decorated with Basquiat’s ‘Nu Nile’ – a 40-foot-wide piece originally commissioned by the Palladium nightclub and completed in 1985 – as well as the original DPM: Bonsai Forest Chalk, which combines Maharishi’s continued celebration of the art of camouflage and Basquiat’s famous use of chalk in his works.

To model the collection, the brand tapped Brooklyn-born instrumentalist, vocalist, and producer, Cisco Swank, whose critically acclaimed work has cemented his position at the forefront of the modern intersection of hip-hop and jazz.
